FEEDBACK IS FUNDAMENTAL

Here’s a little something that came in the email. I’m sure we all have seen similar variations on this theme.

“Jim,

I had one of the assistants at Oak Meadows tell me he just bought a new set of irons. I told him I had no idea that he had been invited to the Titleist New Tour Fitting Van. So I offered to recheck what he got. Not good. I had him hit his six-iron. Not good. He couldn't hit the center. Put him in TS-1 with a 4-degree lie difference. He hit the center every time. I said, ‘Now take your clubs back to their fitting van and ask to have them recheck this equipment’........... He said, ‘Can't, the van is gone!’ I said, ‘hmmm but I'm not’! Even the guys who you think would get it, don't.”

Henry-Griffitts Introduces Their New Praxis Fairway Wood Series

The Henry-Griffitts Praxis Fairway Wood Series Combines The Latest Technology With A Very Pleasing Look
via press release

HAYDEN, Idaho -- Henry-Griffitts-a 27-year-old custom-clubfitting company owned by aboutGolf, the world leader in indoor golf simulator technology-continues to take fairway wood technology to the next level with the introduction of its new Praxis Fairway Wood Series.

The Praxis Fairway Wood Series combines Henry-Griffitts' Principal Axis Technology with its consistent testing processes, resulting in a head design that benefits from a thin, lightweight, super-hard Carpenter Custom 455 Stainless Steel face produced in the United States by Carpenter Steel.

Custom 455, a high-tensile strength material, provides a superior weight-to-strength ratio that permits a thin, light face to be plasma welded to the 17-4 stainless steel body.

The combination of this advanced welding technique and lighter face construction allows more weight to be located in the sole, thereby lowering the center of gravity.

"The Praxis Fairway Wood Series combines the latest technology with a great look that gives us our most outstanding line of fairway woods ever," says Randall Henry, H-G's President. "Golfers will be ready to put new confidence into their bags."

The new Praxis woods also boast a brass sole insert, adding to the low center of gravity. This design feature effectively provides optimal launch angles from all of the five available lofts-15.5, 18.5, 21.5, 24.5 and 28.5 degrees.

The results are excellent launch angles and great ball speed with maximum distance and control.

Henry-Griffitts is leading in another design theory. Its foundry has been able to control clubhead production to a point where H-G can adjust the lie angle and face angle of its fairway woods.

This ability has taken years to perfect and allows H-G to offer more options than other manufacturers. Recently, H-G's fairway wood models have been adjustable for lie angle. Now it is applying that adjustability factor to the face angles.

"Randy Henry's testing over the past couple of years indicates we can accomplish even better ball flight results for our clients by providing heads that can be square, open or closed," Randall Henry says.

"It opens up a new aspect of fitting. This is different approach to our past offerings of offset and non-offset woods and we know it will work even better."

The Praxis also features significantly improved cosmetics. A PVD process changes the color of the sole, face and hosel, then is further enhanced by a unique painting technique that provides a spectacular look.

The lie of the Praxis Fairway Wood Series is adjustable from 3 degrees up to 3 degrees flat and the face angle is adjustable from 3 degrees open to 3 degrees closed.

The weight is adjustable depending on the shaft length and material. The woods carry a bulge of 14 degrees and roll of 12 degrees.

"When you match Praxis fairway heads up with the correct lie angle, face angle, shaft length, shaft flex and weight-with the help of your HG Certified Teacher-there will be no way to beat them," Henry says.

"Golfers will love the new looks, the feel, the sound and especially the results."

Henry-Griffitts Fitters in Action

I played the new TPC in San Antonio today in a section event. This place is very hard and the greens were pretty firm and rolling about an 11-11.5. These Sizzle Wedges are awesome and give me about 700-800 more rpms than some Nike conforming wedges that I had been using. (These wedges are conforming correct? I think they are.) I have a launch monitor at my facility; that's where I did my testing. They spin the ball great and are wonderful wedges! I do like the results better than any other wedge I have tried. The grinds I got are great...Grant gets the gold star there!

Most companies say their new stuff is great because they need to keep sales up and can "market their way out of a bad club". Keep up the good work!

~ Greg Hiller, Certified Teacher, Texas

Not much for me to add here, except to thank Greg for taking the time to comment! And yes, the Sizzle Wedges are conforming. As are the OS-1 irons and the IS-1’s and TS-1‘s with HG FIT on the hosels.

WHY HENRY-GRIFFITTS GOLF CLUBS?

One of the most popular questions asked from our students is why they should purchase H-G clubs vs. other brands? Below is a list of answers we give.

1) Because of the options available in the demo system, our fitters can design a set of clubs for our students with more detail than any other company.

» Shaft type (High Kick steel, Low Kick steel, Regular Weight graphite, Light Weight graphite)
» Shaft Flex- From Extra Stiff to Extra Weak
» Length of each club - Ranges from 4 inches longer than standard to 13.5 inches shorter than standard
» Driver Design - Two different options 400 series and 460 series, both available in offset and traditional, and various lofts
» Fairway Design - Two different options, the Deep Fairway and the Evergreen Fairway, both designs available in offset and traditional, and various lofts. Lies and face angles can be adjusted to individual in both of these models
» Rescue clubs - Available in both offset and traditional, with various lofts and adjustable lies and face angles
» Iron Design - Four different designs available from offset to traditional, with different weighting from heavy weighted soles to perimeter weighting. Each of these models will have a different affect on the ball flight
» Lie Angle on Irons - Ranges from 8° flat to 6° up
» Lofts of Irons - Lofts can be adjusted up to 2° stronger and 2° weaker
» Grip Sizing - Ranges from 1/32 undersize to 1/64 undersize to standard to 1/64 oversize to 1/32 oversize to 1/16 oversize
» Grip Type - Rubber, Perforated, Top Cord, Winn Softie grip with no taper in right hand
» SST PURING - H-G is the only OEM golf club manufacturer that offers this service. We can PURE the shaft for higher ball flight or lower ball flight at your option. PUREing basically stabilizes the golf shaft so the shaft moves in the same direction as the golf swing
» SET MAKE-UP - Customer can order any amount of clubs the fitter recommends, and then order matching clubs later on. H-G keeps detailed specifications on all customer clubs that insures the clubs will match each other. All specifications are under the customers' names. Specifications include the shaft weight, shaft frequency, length on each club, initial head swing weight, epoxy swing weight, grip swing weight, grip weight, lie and loft of each club, along with the fitted specs provided by the H-G trained Certified Teacher. Try getting this kind of information from any other manufacturer!

2) Henry-Griffitts has the tightest tolerances when building clubs in the golf industry.

» Graphite shafts are sorted by frequency; we use the same starting frequency for all the clubs in the set
» Steel shafts are sorted by the gram weight; we use the same gram weight shaft for all the clubs in the set
» Swing weight tolerance in a set of clubs are +/- ½ swing weight based off the average. Swing weights are checked 3 different times through out the building process
» Tolerance on loft and lies are always with in a ½° of requested loft and lies
» Grips are sorted by the gram weight and the same weight grip is put on through out the set of clubs
» All clubs go through a final check before being packed up for shipping

The above are just a few examples of Henry-Griffitts' tolerances. By following these tight tolerances during the building process we can be assured that all the clubs in the set will perform to the student's expectations. When a student is complaining about certain clubs in the bag not performing as well as other clubs in the bag that tells us two things: 1) the clubs are not built with the tight tolerances that H-G offers, and 2) the clubs are not fitted to that person.

3) When talking with a potential students we stress how important our trained H-G Certified Teachers are. H-G knows they are the best fitters in the world, and they offer a service far above and beyond any other in the industry today. Along with building a working relationship with a student, H-G Certified Teachers also put together the ingredients to build the perfect set of clubs that will fit the swing of each individual student. This in turn will help improve the student's golf game.

4) Student's clubs are all built personally for each student as the orders are called in. They do not "pre-make" clubs then adjust them for the fit.

5) Henry-Griffitts will ship out all club orders with in 3 working days from the time the club orders are received.

BALANCE IS FUNDAMENTAL KEEP EQUIPMENT CLOSE BY

Rick Koscher joined our group of Certified Teachers earlier this year and he has taken the H-G philosophy to heart. He sent me the address to his website so I could take a look at his blog, The True Gravity Blog. I found it very interesting and with his permission, I’m going to reprint some of them in the coming issues of the T²T. Here is one from Thursday, July 1, 2010. You can find Rick’s website atwww.thegolfbettercoach.com. On the right side and there is a tab you can access for the True Gravity Blog if you want to follow and/or contribute to it.

“BALANCE – DO YOU HAVE IT?

Balance [balens] Noun
  1. An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady: slipping in the mud but keeping their balance | she lost her balance before falling.
  2. Stability of one’s mind or feelings: the way to some kind of peace and personal balance.
Verb [trans.]
  1. Keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall: a mug that she balanced on her knee.
Verb [intrans.]
  1. Remain in a steady position without falling: Richard balanced on the ball of one foot.
OK, so based on the above definitions we think we know what it means, but go ahead and apply it to your golf swing and man-o-man it just does not work. Oh, and I like the “stability of one’s mind or feelings” part ‘cause that never gets in the way of a good golf game, now does it?

Probably the best golf book I have ever read is “It’s All About Impact” by Andrew Rice. He points out that at address we generally find a balanced position to stand. Go ahead, just stand up right now in a comfortable stance, the one you might use if you were trying to stand steady on a gently rolling boat deck. Now I am willing to bet that if I drew a line from the outside of your right foot to the outside of your right ear the angle would measure 84 degrees, just as Mr. Rice’s research found studying multiple major champions.

So what is your point, “O Great GolfBetter Coach”? Simple. We, by our own instinctive intuition will use a natural position to keep ourselves in balance. So why do we let all of the other “GOLF TALK” tell us we need to “load left” or “stack and tilt” or “shift to your back foot then back to your forward foot”? Hogan was right. If we would just go about golf intelligently, and I’ll add “naturally” to the statement, we could shoot in the 70’s.

One additional comment to make here, though, and it’s important. If you are swinging a stick that does not reward your natural tendencies, then how do you expect to swing naturally? And that’s just what every golfer is doing unless they have been to a golf instructor who has “BATS”, otherwise known as Balance Achievement Tools.

If they (the instructors) do not (have BATS), then the lesson is all about them. And if they do, then the lesson is all about YOU!

Call or stop by to see me and I’ll introduce you to my “BATS”. My friend, it’s all about you and helping you to GolfBetter.”
